3. Training and capacity building:
Capacity building – Local governance :
Rural Panchayats have been made more aware of the role of Panchayats in COVID-19. So that they work for the community on village welfare, health, and education issues. For this, 200 panchayat sarpanches and members were educated through various procedures.
Youth -capacity building :
Youth is considered a competent group, in the COVID-19 epidemic, youth can play an important role in the home, village, and society, and at that level, leadership begins in the process of development, for this about 800 youth were involved.
More than 5,000 people from 6 talukas were involved in the movement conducted by Lokvaani and they were also accompanied by doctors to teach them scientific methods.
Different methods have been adopted to work with the youth of Kutch. In which class of youth were engaged with farmers, pastoralists, and agrias on a daily wage basis. Constant dialogue has been done with the youth in 5 villages of Rapar, Bhachau, Mandvi, Bhuj, and Nakhtrana talukas. Like,
Dialogues with the youth related to local governance
At the village level, the process of connecting the youth voters of 44 villages with the Panchayat was undertaken. In which 445 were joined. the youths are made aware of leadership at the village level, and many of these youths also understand the right to vote as first-time voters. In order to understand each other from a community perspective,
To understand the youth online -offline work with youth
An assumption to work with youth is that an online movement can raise awareness of youth issues at large. However, when the online workshop was conducted and analyzed, it was found that the youth were more interested in offline rather than online workshops and the poor and disadvantaged communities were left out.
As per the main point of the study, 60% of the youth have a mobile device. Out of this 60%, 80% of the girls did not own a mobile device and for the remaining 20%, it was owned by another member of the family. The main sources of information are TV and mobile. There is no use of print media among the youth only WhatsApp is used.
Also guidance was given on using mobiles for study, 63% of the youth had dropped out of their studies and joined their traditional occupations.
So both online and offline workshops were organized with the youth and they were taken forward to schools and colleges.
Adolescent girls :
Informal education should be started for literacy and education in order to make girls from deprived communities aware of education. 185 girls had joined.
Adolescent Literacy:
The Banni area of Kutch is an area of Maldharis. The society has been united for years and they have preserved their traditions even in the external environment. In which special social customs are followed by all the people of that area. As per the rules of society, even today, girls are not allowed to go out from one place to another,at such time to understand the problem of the young girls, to build their trust, and to make the teenagers aware of the issues of health and education, primary meeting of village leaders was held initially in the villages of  Hodko  and Gorevali Panchayats and 17 surrounding villages in Dumado Panchayat. In which the purpose is clarified.
Out of these 17 villages, 14 villages have agreed to provide new information to approximately 165 girls, children, and women with primary education. Due to lack of education and its poor standard, non-formal education has been started. Efforts have been made to increase the literacy level mainly through the keyword approach in which -The method of primary education has been adopted from the word system. It includes letters and grammar through different words.
Thus, during the period from 2019 to 2021, most of the work focused on public health in the COVID epidemic and on COVID awareness and education. In the course of time, certain processes/work gained momentum so that the direction of Lokvaani became focused.
